Everyone is advised by a friend
Receiving advice from friends is one of the most important aspects of friendships. The state of your life in friendship is directly proportionate to the kind of advice you receive from your friends.
Some advice from friends can dramatically reposition your life on a path God has ordained for you, while others can eventually jeopardize your life. Every type of friendship has its own counselors.
To receive the right and godly advice in friendship is to be in the right friendship
In the counsel of right friends, there is safety
One of the major reasons many people find it difficult to enter into friendship is because of their inability to assess the impacts of the advices offered by friends. Almost every friends goes through this.
When we find ourselves in the predicaments of life, we often find it very arduous to exercise the powers of our minds – we find it difficult to think when we see ourselves in the deadlocks of life.
Our minds become so much arrested by what we go through that we turn to be indecisive. As a result, we embrace every advice that is given to us without keenly reconsidering its impacts on our lives. This becomes dangerous when the advice is not from a right friend.
Advice from right friends are in accordance with the wisdom of God. This means, their advices are pure, peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy, and good fruits. They are without partiality, hypocrisy and are always based on the word of God (James 3:17).
Have good friends around you to always receive good advice
The advice of good friends are profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, for you to be thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
It takes carefulness, willingness, humility and obedience to accept the advice of your friends. Seeking for the counsel of friends is not stupidity; but wisdom. Even the wise men who went to visit Jesus asked for direction.
Give good advice to your friends and make friends who will also give you good counsel
One advice from a wrong friend can cost you your life like it happened to Amnon
One advice from a right and good friend can birth all the purposes of God for your life like it happened to Ruth through the counsel of Naomi
Which friends advise you?... Think about this...
